Maths Teacher | Good Secondary School | Romford
The Opportunity
Romford is a historic market town that serves as a vital gateway between the heart of London and the industrial corridors of Essex. We are seeking an articulate and energetic Maths Teacher to join a 'Good' secondary school . In this role, you will help students navigate the complexities of numerical reasoning and logic, utilizing the town’s blend of commercial vitality and technological growth to show the real-world impact of mathematical mastery.
The Department & Mathematical Culture
You will join a supportive and collaborative Mathematics faculty that views the subject as the fundamental toolkit for problem-solving and financial literacy.
The department follows a balanced curriculum that prioritizes conceptual fluency, ensuring students understand the "why" behind the formulas as well as the "how."
As a 'Good' school, we focus on consistent improvement and student engagement, utilizing interactive digital platforms alongside traditional methods to bring geometry and algebra to life.
The department is a key driver of the school’s academic success, maintaining high expectations for behaviour and a positive, "can-do" attitude toward challenges.
Core Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Teaching Mathematics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), delivering lessons that are well-paced, rigorously planned, and accessible to all learners.
Problem-Solving Development: Leading students through complex multi-step problems, teaching them how to break down challenges into logical, manageable components.
Numeracy Across the Curriculum: Collaborating with other departments to ensure that mathematical literacy—from data interpretation in Science to measurement in DT—is reinforced school-wide.
Diagnostic Feedback: Utilizing regular low-stakes testing and formal assessments to identify gaps in understanding, providing actionable feedback that empowers students to improve.
Exam Preparation: Providing targeted support and revision sessions for Year 11 students, focusing on exam technique and building the confidence required for GCSE success.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a practitioner who believes that every student can succeed in Mathematics with the right guidance. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline.
Pedagogical Range: The ability to teach the technicalities of the curriculum while fostering an appreciation for the logic and order of the subject.
Resilient Engagement: A teacher who can motivate students who may find the subject challenging, using creative examples and real-world contexts to build interest.
Team Player: A proactive professional who is eager to contribute to the shared resources and collaborative planning within the Maths faculty.
Why Join Us?
A school that treats Mathematics as a flagship subject, providing a supportive environment for staff and a clear pathway for professional development.
Access to specialized training and regional networking through East London and Essex teaching school hubs.
The opportunity to work in Romford—a vibrant town offering the best of both worlds: excellent transport links into Central London and easy access to the Essex countryside.
A warm, inclusive staff culture where collaborative working and the celebration of student achievement are at the heart of the school's identity.
