What is the purpose of this job?
The Test Role at Rail Delivery Group (RDG) is pivotal in ensuring the reliability and performance of our digital solutions across the railway sector. You will play a key role in the testing processes of various projects, working collaboratively with development teams to identify issues and ensure that products meet the required standards of quality and functionality.
As a member of our testing team, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of testing practices, enhance the efficiency of testing cycles, and participate in the delivery of innovative solutions that improve the customer experience across the UK rail network.
What can I expect to do in this job?
This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to lead and be involved with include:
- Develop test plans, test cases, and scripts based on project requirements and specifications.
- Execute manual and automated tests to evaluate software functionality, performance, and reliability.
- Report and track defects using appropriate tools, ensuring clear communication with development teams for timely resolution.
- Participate in design reviews and requirements gathering to provide testing inputs.
- Collaborate with team members to continuously improve testing methodologies and practices.
- Assist in maintaining a robust and efficient testing environment.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of test activities and results.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in software testing.
Requirements
- Proven experience in software testing across various platforms, with a strong understanding of both manual and automated testing methodologies.
- Familiarity with testing tools such as Selenium, JIRA, and Test Rail is advantageous.
- Solid understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and software testing life cycle (STLC).
- Attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset for identifying issues effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant certifications in software testing (e.g., ISTQB) are a plus.
