Salary: £21,000 – £23,000 FTE (pro-rata for part-time hours)

We are a forward-thinking primary school in Edgware, North London, with a proud history of inclusive education. We have a well-established Additional Resource Provision (ARP) for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) , including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

The Role
We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and motivated SEN / ARP Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and energetic team. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, specialists, and support staff to deliver high-quality, personalised education to pupils with complex needs.
You will be responsible for supporting pupils both within the ARP classroom and in mainstream lessons , helping them access the curriculum and develop social, emotional, and communication skills. This role requires a proactive individual who can adapt quickly to different situations , demonstrate empathy, and implement strategies that promote positive behaviour and learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one or small group support for pupils with SEN, including those with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.
Assist teachers with planning, preparing, and delivering lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils.
Implement behaviour management strategies to encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
Support pupils in developing independence, communication, and social skills .
Help pupils access mainstream lessons while providing appropriate scaffolding and support .
Monitor and record pupil progress, contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and regular review meetings.
Liaise with teachers, SENCo, therapists, and parents to ensure consistency of support and effective communication.
Supervise pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, and transitions , ensuring safety and inclusion.
Assist in assessment and feedback to inform teaching strategies and personalised learning plans.
Support the implementation of therapeutic interventions , including speech and language activities, occupational therapy exercises, or social skills sessions.
Promote a safe and inclusive environment , maintaining safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience supporting SEN pupils in an educational setting, ideally in an ARP or mainstream classroom.
Strong understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other complex needs .
Patience, empathy, and resilience to support children with challenging behaviour.
Excellent communication skills , both with children and adults.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team .
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
A proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving.
Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety policies.
Experience of using assistive technologies or educational software is desirable.
Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, SEN Support, or NVQ in Childcare are preferred but not essential.
