The appointed Year 1 Teacher will take part in planning before January 2026, attend induction during January 2026, and be teaching from January 2026 as a Full-Time Year 1 Teacher.

This Kingston school has a calm, inclusive culture and strong parental engagement. The Year 1 Teacher will lead systematic phonics, guided reading and creative writing, and will plan rich maths sessions to build fluency. From January 2026 the Year 1 Teacher will run interventions, monitor progress and report to parents. The Year 1 Teacher will have a dedicated teaching assistant and receive mentoring as a Full-Time practitioner who started in January 2026.
What the Year 1 Teacher will do
• Plan and deliver daily phonics and guided reading as the Year 1 Teacher.
• Use assessment to identify next steps and run targeted booster groups as the Year 1 Teacher.
• Communicate with families and lead termly reports as the Year 1 Teacher.
• Take part in curriculum meetings and CPD scheduled before and after January 2026 as the Year 1 Teacher.

In-class practice and impact of the Year 1 Teacher
As Year 1 Teacher you will use a balanced approach: high-quality direct instruction for phonics balanced with discovery learning that encourages creativity. Your work as the Year 1 Teacher will focus on closing gaps and building confidence so pupils are ready for the next stage after Year 1. The Year 1 Teacher will also help lead transition work to Reception in the weeks surrounding January 2026 and will be central to parental engagement during the spring term after January 2026.
Person specification — Year 1 Teacher
We are seeking a Year 1 Teacher with QTS and recent KS1 experience, strong phonics practice and the ability to form positive relationships with children and families. The Year 1 Teacher should be available to prepare before January 2026, attend induction in January 2026 and teach from January 2026 as a Full-Time Year 1 Teacher.
