Rent Accountant
Contract: Temporary – 6 months
Hours: Full time
Pay Rate: £225per day (Umbrella)
Overview:
The Rent Accountant will manage rent and service charge accounting processes for legacy Network and SW9, ensuring financial accuracy across transactions worth £160m annually. The role includes posting journals, reconciling bank and control accounts, validating rent settings, and supporting audits. This role also provides leadership to one direct report.
Key Responsibilities:
* Post weekly journals into SUN for rent and service charge transactions.
* Reconcile payments from third-party channels, resolving discrepancies.
* Review and correct remittances between client codes.
* Reconcile weekly NEC interface files to SUN journals.
* Undertake weekly reconciliation of Universal Credit receipts.
* Support rent setting validation for in-year relets.
* Ensure timely allocation of suspense items, refunds, and property-related transactions.
* Support internal/external audits with documentation and walkthroughs.
* Serve as backup for the Rent and Service Charge Analyst.
* Lead one direct report, providing direction, performance management, and development.
* Promote inclusion, wellbeing, and continuous improvement within the team.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Part-qualified ACA/CIMA/ACCA or qualified by experience.
* Strong knowledge of rent accounting, income management, and regulatory requirements.
* Experience in reconciliations, audits, and rent setting.
* Excellent communication and reporting skills.
* Strong Microsoft Excel and Office skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
Desirable:
* NEC system experience.
* Background in social housing finance.
* Experience driving efficiencies and strengthening financial controls
