SEN Teaching Assistant - Brixton

Specialist SEN School | Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity
£500 - £650 per week | September Start

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs?

Would you like to work within a specialist school where education, therapy and pastoral support work closely together?

Are you looking for a long-term opportunity where you can develop genuine experience within SEN education?

A well-established specialist SEN school based in Brixton is seeking enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join its team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.

The school supports children and young people across Primary, Secondary and Post-16 , providing highly individualised education for pupils with a range of additional needs. These include Autism (ASD), speech, language and communication needs, moderate to complex learning difficulties, sensory needs and associated social and emotional needs .

Pupils follow personalised learning programmes linked closely to their EHCP outcomes , with an emphasis on communication, independence, emotional regulation, functional skills and preparation for adulthood. Class sizes are small, allowing staff to provide a high level of individual support.

The school has a strong multidisciplinary approach, with Teaching Assistants working alongside experienced SEN Teachers, Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other specialist professionals to ensure pupils receive consistent support across both their education and wider development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils across different age groups
  • Supporting children and young people with Autism and additional learning needs
  • Helping pupils access personalised lessons and activities
  • Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
  • Working towards individual EHCP targets and learning outcomes
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive engagement with learning
  • Supporting sensory strategies and individual behaviour support plans
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SaLTs, OTs and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Observing pupil progress and contributing towards assessments and reports
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes and activities outside the classroom

You will play an important role in creating a safe, structured and nurturing environment in which pupils can overcome barriers to learning and make meaningful academic, social and personal progress.

We are looking for:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is advantageous
  • Graduates considering careers in teaching, psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy or educational psychology
  • Candidates from education, care, youth work or support work backgrounds
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Someone proactive, reliable and genuinely passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a specialist SEN environment

Previous school-based experience is desirable but not essential , as the school can provide training and support for candidates who demonstrate the right attitude and transferable experience.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive specialist school offering strong leadership, ongoing professional development, multidisciplinary experience and genuine opportunities to progress within SEN education .

Apply now or send your CV to Stephen at KPI Education to be considered.
