EClinicalMedicine is a member of The Lancet’s family of world-renowned medical journals committed to publishing the best science for better lives. We are a small, collaborative, international team, handling a large volume of high-quality research, review and opinion submissions to drive thought leadership across all medical specialties. About the Role
As an In-House Deputy Editor, you will oversee the creation and publication of original content. You will take ownership for overseeing submissions and quality peer reviews to ensure we publish high-quality content. You will build global relationships with people and institutes in the medical and research.
Responsibilities
- Assist the editorial team with decisions on which new submissions should be considered for publication, and help the Editor develop editorial strategy.
- Deputise for the Editor-in-Chief in his/her absence.
- Arranging peer review and commissioning content;
- Scanning medical literature and news to keep up-to-date with developments;
- Attending conferences and academic meetings, along with laboratory and institutional visits;
- Writing editorials, commissioning reviews and publishing correspondence to build the journal’s profile among the communities we serve;
- Suggesting and helping to develop new initiatives for future developments and enhancements to our journal.
Requirements
- Have a Medical degree with clinical experience or PhD in related field with postdoctoral experience;
- Substantial editorial experience, at Senior Editor level, with a good understanding of all aspects of the editorial process, journal production, and of managing an editorial team.
- Demonstrate great knowledge of biological and medical sciences;
- Have an exceptional command of the English language and the ability to write in an engaging and interesting manner;
- Be able to communicate and negotiate constructively with members of the medical profession, the media and colleagues;
- Have proficiency with IT systems including MS Office;
- Enjoy collaborating with teams to deliver successful projects and initiatives on-time;
- Have a natural ability to engage, influence and build relationships with stakeholders, teams and our community;
- Be able to travel to internationally for meetings and conferences.
