The Role:
As a Health & Safety Standards Development Lead, you can make your own powerful contribution to people across Westminster. Responsible for reviewing the Council’s existing Health & Safety management systems, you’ll develop, design and implement improvements that drive meaningful change and contribute to a positive safety culture for over 3,600 staff.
Collaborating closely with senior colleagues, you’ll help design a comprehensive training, learning and development matrix for Council staff, setting occupational standards to facilitate management engagement and commitment. With a focus on risk reduction, you’ll ensure the requirements of ISO 45001, ISO 31000, ISO 22320 and ISO 43001 are met. Taking a human-centred approach to safety, you’ll balance complex health & safety risks and compliance obligations to facilitate an organisation-wide culture of learning, development and continuous improvement.

About You:
An established professional with substantial experience implementing ISO 45001 and other relevant ISO systems, you’ll have the following qualifications and accreditations:
- Occupational Health & Safety qualification equivalent to EQF level 6 or higher.
- Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Health & Safety.
- ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Lead Auditor.
- Lead auditor 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.
You’ll bring knowledge of ISO 22320 Emergency management requirements, including the ability to identify, assess and prioritise Health & Safety risks. An understanding of strategic organisational and employee wellbeing issues within a large, complex public sector organisation is key, as is a high standard of integrity to ensure unbiased and impartial audit findings.
On a personal level, you’ll be a true team player with excellent communication, attention to detail and presentation skills. Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about supporting the Council’s drive to develop a modernised and resilient Health & Safety function built on trust, innovation, and care.
