Principal Electrical Engineer

Missions/Main Duties
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Production and approval of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents
- Establishment of internal design standards and/or processes to achieve a continuous improvement in quality and efficiency, contributing to long term technical development of the office by application of new techniques, procedures and practices
- To work at any position within a project team to achieve the project objectives
- Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others; competent to check and approve the work of others; competent to sign off design certificates on behalf of the company
- Preparation, checking and/or approval of feasibility studies, outline and detailed design technical reports and other written documents
- Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
- Prepare and check engineering designs, calculations, and oversee production
- Prepare and check technical documents and reports and assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tenders
- Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations.
- Effective management of and response to project related correspondence
- Acting as representative within the Technical Directorate and Production Centres in the wider SYSTRA Group.

People and stakeholder accountabilities
- Day to day management, planning, leading and motivating your team
- Ensure project requirements are effectively communicated to the team
- Responsible for management and personnel issues for direct reports
- Advice and guidance is provided for staff, and professional development is actively pursued. Develop staff to ensure the skills are available within the team to meet business objectives
- Review and monitor staff performance via the appraisal process and other methods
- Supervise the training & development and mentoring of junior staff
- Manage relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
- Management of teams of engineers and external suppliers
- Liaise with construction teams to ensure designs are buildable and represent value for money as well as the wider design team to ensure consistency and quality of deliverables across all projects
- Client and third-party liaison
- Good relationships are maintained with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company
- Responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, development, Performance management, and retention of team members to build a high-performing and engaged team
- Communicate relevant business updates, strategic objectives, and key information to the team in a timely and effective manner, ensuring clarity and alignment
- Ensure full compliance with people policies and procedure, proactively managing people-related risks to maintain a fair and safe working environment
- Create and maintain a working environment in which SYSTRA’s behavioural expectations are recognised and demonstrated through daily interactions with colleagues and clients. Financial and project accountabilities
- Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification
- Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finance.
- Prepare and check contract documents and scheme cost estimates
- Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets
Profile/Skills
- Extensive knowledge of, and proven experience of building and leading teams within large multi-disciplinary projects for, electrical services design within the built environment and/or transport infrastructure including railway lineside systems (points heating, signalling power, level crossings, general LV distribution) and/or lighting, small power, containment, earthing and fire alarms
- Experience in the use of industry wide software for electrical calculation purposes and the ability to advise the business on the procurement of new applications to support project delivery
- Knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues associated with railway lineside systems and/or the Built Environment
- Qualification: HNC or equivalent
- Professional status: CEng or equivalent
