Behaviour Mentor - Hillingdon Opportunity
Behaviour Mentor
Location: Hillingdon, West London
Salary: Competitive (Based on experience)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: ASAP / Immediate
The Opportunity
Wayman Education is looking for a resilient, empathetic, and dedicated Behaviour Mentor for an immediate start at a supportive secondary school in Hillingdon. This is a vital role designed to support students who face barriers to their learning due to social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work outside the traditional classroom setting to provide targeted support to individual students or small groups. Your goal is to help them manage their emotions, develop social skills, and re-engage with their education in a positive way.
Key Responsibilities:
One-to-One Mentoring: Build strong, trusting relationships with students to understand the root causes of their challenging behaviour.
De-escalation: Use proven techniques to manage difficult situations and help students regulate their emotions during times of crisis.
Restorative Justice: Facilitate conversations between students and staff to resolve conflicts and rebuild relationships following behavioral incidents.
Progress Tracking: Maintain detailed records of student interactions and behavioral trends to share with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and parents.
Classroom Integration: Support students as they transition back into the classroom, providing them with the tools they need to stay focused and productive.
The School
This Hillingdon-based school is committed to inclusive education and provides a robust support network for its pastoral staff. You will join a multidisciplinary team that includes counselors, SEN specialists, and experienced teachers, all working together to ensure no student is left behind.
Why join this team?
Specialized Training: Access to professional development in areas such as Team-Teach, Mental Health First Aid, and trauma-informed practice.
Rewarding Work: Experience the immense satisfaction of seeing a student transform their attitude toward learning and achieve their potential.
Excellent Location: Ideally located for commuters in West London, with strong links via the Metropolitan Line and local bus networks.
Collaborative Culture: Work in an environment where your insights into student behavior are valued and acted upon by the senior leadership team.
Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people in a behavioral, pastoral, or youth work capacity.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
A firm but fair approach, with a deep understanding of the triggers for challenging behavior in an educational setting.
Resilience and a positive outlook, even when faced with difficult situations.
An enhanced DBS check (or a willingness to undergo one immediately).
