We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our London team. In this role, you’ll help us build and maintain high-performance systems that power our hyper-local marketplace, ensuring a seamless experience for millions of users. This role is based in our London office with a hybrid setup, typically 3 days in the office.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be joining a multi-disciplinary engineering team focused on technical execution and collaboration. As a Software Engineer at Deliveroo, your individual work contributes to achieving goals across your team, simplifying the maintenance of production systems while ensuring operational readiness and health.

Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:

  • Design and scale backend services for our real-time marketplace using languages such as Go, Ruby, or Python.

  • Improve code structure and architecture by participating in deep technical discussions and reviewing code across your team’s remit.

  • Enhance system reliability by focusing on visibility, monitoring, and the overall health of production systems.

  • Collaborate across teams to identify integration opportunities and influence the technical roadmap within your domain.

  • Take an active role in the hiring process , conducting engineering interviews and supporting the growth of your peers.

What You’ll Need to Thrive

Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others:

  • Pride in readable, well-designed, and well-tested software , with a focus on long-term maintainability.

  • Experience writing web-based applications in any modern language (Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, or Rust).

  • Solid understanding of relational databases (such as PostgreSQL or MySQL).

  • Familiarity with web architecture at scale , ideally handling high-traffic environments (20krpm and above).

  • Exposure to NoSQL data backends or caching layers like Redis, DynamoDB, or ElasticSearch.

  • A problem-solving mindset , particularly when applied to complex logistical or marketplace challenges.
