TIER 2 CERTIFICATE OF SPONSORSHIP (formerly Work Permit)

Key Results Areas

Daily Tasks

  • To work with the Theatre and anaesthetic division across the range of clinical specialities as required and following appropriate training.
  • To provide support if required to other specialist areas within the division including anaesthetics, recovery, day surgery ward, surgical reception, pre assessment and pain management.
  • Checking, witnessing and administering controlled drugs.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of how to use medical devices safely and effectively.
  • Advising the Theatre coordinator or Team Leader of proposed changes in the order of operating lists and bed issues.
  • Co-operating with appropriate staff in safe transfer of patients to and from the operating theatres and other wards/ department.
  • Assist in the teaching and supervision of learners entering the operating theatres to gain specialist training, this include nursing and ODP trainees, medical students and apprenticeship.
  • Be prepared to work across the theatre specialities (acquired skills allowing) if required to do so in order to meet the needs of the service.
  • Undertake any reasonable duty as directed by a person in charge to ensure the smooth running of the department.
  • Be responsible for reporting their sick and annual leave in line with departmental guideline.
  • Ensure that appearance and behaviour are in accordance with Trust’s policy.
  • Ensure that all theatre areas are clean and escalate to theatre coordinator as necessary.
  • To ensure that pharmaceutical supplies are stored appropriately. Keeping the storage room and fridge neat and tidy at all times.
  • To ensure that supplies of oxygen and other medical gas cylinders and related sundries are maintained and safely stored.
  • Received and check supplied goods against the delivery note or original specification in liaison with procurement supplies officer.
  • Responsible for the equipment in own speciality, ensuring it is used safely and effectively, kept in working order and properly maintained.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Communication

  • Record observations accurately in accordance with the patients' condition. Interpret and inform the nurse in charge of changing data and respond as directed
  • Report clinical issues/complaints to the Theatre coordinator. In cases where investigation is required, verbal or written statements and any other evidences must be provided promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic documentation in relation to patient care. This must be completed in an appropriately and timely manner.
  • Provide information which enables patients to make choices about adopting a healthier lifestyle.
  • Assist patients to gain access to health and social care, information and support relevant to their needs.
  • Participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication with the patient and their carer(s)
  • Develop communication skills in order to convey complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events. This includes expanded role responsibilities, following appropriate training
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Maintain professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues

Personal and People Development

  • Be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with CPD requirements and maintain a professional profile
  • Assist in training and development of Nursing assistants and junior colleagues and complete assessors training as required.
  • Attend Trust/local orientation programmes, mandatory training sessions and annual updates
  • To attend departmental meeting as required
  • Participate in annual staff appraisal, staff development and in-service training development programmes
  • Help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator in the supervision and teaching of nursing students and others to develop their competence
  • Develop own teaching skills and participate in staff/student education programmes that develop competence and performance
  • Act as a preceptor/facilitator/mentor for junior colleagues.
  • Take part in reflection and appropriate learning from practice, in order to maintain and develop competence and performance

Health, Safety and Security

  • All staff has responsibility to prevent and control infections. This include but not limited to ensuring compliance with relevant policies, especially hand hygiene, dress code, MRSA screening and cleaning and decontamination guidelines.
  • Implementing safety measures in relation to swabs and instrument and needle count, administration of blood and blood products, ionising radiation, medicines management, electricity and explosion hazards, fire.
  • Be totally aware and conversant with the Health and Safety at work act and comply with the regulations.
  • Develop an awareness of personal responsibility with regard to maintenance of a clean environment that is conducive to safe, therapeutic and ethical practice
  • Be accountable for and ensure own competence in practice, e.g. use of specialised medical devices
  • Be aware of own personal/professional limitations and seek help of others to maintain safe practice.

Other

The job description is not intended to be exhaustive and it is likely that duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after consultation with the post holder. You will be expected to actively participate in annual appraisals and set objectives in conjunction with your manager. Performance will be monitored against set objectives.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

***IELTS ( 7.5 with 7.0 in each module) – OR OET Exam Grade ‘B’ Overall for Overseas AHP Professionals
***HCPC Registration Required (Health & Care Professionals Council) Essential – We can provide guidance if needed
