Role Overview
The school is seeking a dedicated Welfare Officer who will play a key role in supporting the physical and emotional wellbeing of students. This role is central to the pastoral structure of the school and involves working closely with students, families, staff and external agencies.
The successful candidate will ensure that students receive appropriate care and support throughout the school day, helping to maintain a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide first-line pastoral support for students experiencing wellbeing or personal challenges
• Manage the school’s medical room and respond to student health needs
• Maintain accurate welfare and medical records for students
• Administer first aid where required and coordinate responses to minor injuries or illness
• Liaise with parents and guardians regarding student welfare concerns
• Work closely with safeguarding leads to ensure that concerns are appropriately recorded and addressed
• Support attendance monitoring by following up with families where necessary
• Assist with the development of wellbeing initiatives within the school
• Support students returning to school following illness or absence
• Contribute to safeguarding processes and reporting systems
• Work collaboratively with pastoral leaders and teaching staff
• Ensure that safeguarding procedures are followed at all times
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will demonstrate a genuine commitment to supporting young people and creating a safe school environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
• Experience working with young people in an educational or pastoral setting
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
• Knowledge of safeguarding practices and procedures
• Basic first aid training (or willingness to undertake training)
• Excellent organisational skills when managing welfare records
• Sensitivity when dealing with confidential information
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students and families
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Commitment to promoting positive student wellbeing
Experience within a school setting is advantageous but not essential.
