We are seeking a dedicated and organised Attendance Officer to join a good-rated secondary school in Romford. This important role supports the school’s commitment to student achievement by monitoring attendance, liaising with parents, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. The successful candidate will play a vital part in maintaining high standards of student attendance and supporting the school community.

Role Overview:
As Attendance Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring, recording, and reporting student attendance across the school. You will work closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to promote consistent attendance, identify issues early, and support interventions where necessary. Your work will help ensure that students have the best possible opportunities to succeed and that the school meets all statutory attendance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain accurate student attendance records using the school’s management information system.

  • Follow up with parents and carers regarding unexplained absences and lateness.

  • Generate attendance reports for senior leadership and external agencies as required.

  • Identify trends or patterns in attendance and provide recommendations for interventions.

  • Support the implementation of school policies and statutory regulations relating to attendance.

  • Liaise with staff, families, and external agencies to promote good attendance and support students at risk of persistent absence.

  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure data protection compliance in line with school policies.

  • Assist with parent meetings, attendance letters, and related administrative tasks.

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in administration, pastoral care, or attendance-related roles is desirable.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and respond promptly to issues as they arise.

  • Familiarity with school management information systems and data recording practices.

  • Understanding of safeguarding, data protection, and confidentiality requirements.
