Sustainable Transport Manager
Lead delivery of sustainable, safe and accessible transport across the region. We're seeking a delivery-focused Sustainable Transport Manager to lead programmes that increase walking, cycling, public transport and low-emission travel - and to manage staff and the operational delivery of public-facing services including home to school transport.,
- Operational leadership of public-facing transport services, including home to school transport and service performance.
- Staff management: recruit, lead and develop a small multidisciplinary team and frontline staff.
- Programme delivery: plan, procure and deliver active travel, low-emission and behaviour-change projects.
- Funding and budgets: prepare bids, manage budgets and ensure value for money.
- Stakeholder engagement: work with highways, planning, operators, schools and communities.
- Monitoring and compliance: use data to report outcomes and ensure safety, equality and statutory compliance. A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged. This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council. Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
- Proven experience in transport delivery, operations or transport planning.
- Strong people management and operational delivery experience.
- Track record of managing projects, budgets and funding bids.
- Excellent stakeholder and communication skills; able to translate technical evidence into practical schemes.
