Our PSS team is focused on, for Swiss Re Group, public sector institutions with non-standard buying behaviour, influences and/or needs driven by unique political or budgetary considerations, motivations, gestation periods and/or procurement processes impacting decision-making, solution design and/or execution. This includes:

  1. Governments at central, state, and municipal levels

  1. State-backed risk pools, captives and international sovereign risk pools

  1. Publicly-owned Export Credit Agencies

  1. World Bank, UN Agencies and IMF, and other Supranational & Development Finance Institutions; and

  1. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

About the Role

You will be responsible for originating business and managing client relationships with public sector clients in the UK to deliver opportunities for Swiss Re Group including, but not limited to Reinsurance, Corporate Solutions, Alternative Capital Partners, and Risk Data Solutions (the tool and consulting arm of Swiss Re Group) aligned with their growth priorities and target liability portfolios. The role requires close coordination with the Business Units where the underwriting and P&L authority sits, to deliver business success in a collaborative ecosystem. There is also close collaboration with other Group Functions such as Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management, and Swiss Re Institute. Additionally, this role requires proven leadership and readiness to deputise for the Head PSS UK & Ireland on varied management tasks.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Take ownership of the implementation, coordination and delivery of the UK go-to-market plans, working with the Head PSS UK & Ireland to refine and evolve them for success.

  • Responsible for delivering set revenue and profitability targets for UK&I PSS business.

  • Lead and own origination activity through consultative selling techniques in the assigned geography/ client segment in UK, making it easy, valuable, and engaging for public sector stakeholders—including brokers and insurance partners—to work with Swiss Re.

  • Execute end-to-end client management and business origination activities, make sound commercial decisions, identify critical risks, and decisively discontinue non-viable or low-value initiatives, executing on the PSS go-to-market plan for the UK.

  • Engage with public sector clients to understand their risk assessment and re/insurance needs, advising them on contingent liabilities and potential risk transfer solutions.

  • Engage with brokers, non-profits, international organisations and platforms, and other stakeholders to drive business origination.

  • Act as the local lead when collaborating with PSS Technical Sales Team and BU Underwriters, Customer Distribution Management team and other key stakeholders across the Group to develop advanced risk insights and design tailored risk transfer solutions, leveraging insurance, reinsurance, and capital markets as appropriate, participating in and leading cross-functional deal teams.

  • Elevate Swiss Re’s visibility, credibility, and brand by participating in and contributing to industry, client and stakeholder events, particularly in areas of high relevance to public sector partners in UK.

  • Leverage marketing and social media channels (e.g., LinkedIn) effectively as part of sales and communication, enhancing visibility, outreach, and engagement with public sector stakeholders.

  • Contribute to managing operational and compliance risks for UK by identifying exposures, evaluating controls, and implementing necessary corrective actions.

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and structured reporting of pipeline activity for public sector business in the UK to support origination visibility and decision-making.

  • Take ownership for nurturing and developing junior team members across different geographies (rotation, interns, etc.), supporting their upskilling and long-term growth within the PSS team.

About You

  • Demonstrated success in originating and developing business in a public sector or non-life re/insurance context (full ownership from opportunity qualification to execution), ideally in UK & Ireland, in a cost-conscious way. Evidence of high performance in non-life re/insurance or risk management industry including brokers with preferably 5+ years relevant public sector experience.

  • Use data and commercial insight to shape origination strategy and drive outcomes.

  • Self-starter who operates with autonomy, accountability, and focus. The ability to take ownership of, develop, improve and execute strategic plans is crucial.

  • Client centricity and persistence while engaging, navigating and negotiating with multiple external stakeholders.

  • Collaborative approach while leading, coordinating, and contributing to the internal cross-functional deal team comprising internal stakeholders from underwriting, structuring, pricing, compliance, etc. – often virtually.

  • Excellence in driving the follow-up and transaction management.

  • Public sector or broker network in UK is an advantage.

  • Ability to travel extensively within UK to drive close client and broker proximity.

  • In-office presence aligned with Swiss Re's hybrid work environment.

  • Fluency in English.

For London, the annual base salary range for this position is between GBP 88 000 and GBP 132 000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
  • the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
