Learning Support Assistant - Havering

Marchant Recruitment
Havering, Greater London

Location: Havering, London
Contract Type: Full-time

We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic, and caring Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Havering. This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children’s learning and wellbeing and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning within a supportive school environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, and other support staff to provide targeted support to pupils across the school. This may include working with pupils who have special educational needs, additional learning needs, or those requiring extra academic or emotional support. Support will be delivered through in-class assistance, small group interventions, and one-to-one work where appropriate.

You will play a key role in helping pupils access the curriculum, develop confidence, and build independence. This includes adapting learning activities, reinforcing key concepts, and supporting pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour. Creating a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment will be central to your role.

The Learning Support Assistant will also contribute to monitoring pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff, and supporting assessment processes. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure pupils receive consistent and effective support.

This role is ideal for someone with previous experience working with children or young people, particularly within a school or educational setting. The school is committed to professional development and offers opportunities for training, including SEN-related CPD, behaviour support strategies, and safeguarding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils’ learning across the curriculum

  • Work with individuals and small groups

  • Assist pupils with SEND or additional learning needs

  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing

  • Support lesson preparation and classroom organisation

  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers

  • Build positive relationships with pupils and staff

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children (school-based experience desirable)

  • A calm, patient, and supportive approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Commitment to inclusion and safeguarding

To be considered for this position, please forward an up-to-date CV as soon as possible.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
