A warm and ambitious Good primary in Merton seeks an energetic Year 1 Teacher to join its KS1 phase on a Full-Time basis with a January 2026 start. This Year 1 Teacher role is ideal for a creative, phonics-strong practitioner who values warm routines and high expectations. The Year 1 Teacher will be provided with a structured induction for the January 2026 start, collaborative planning time ahead of the January 2026 start, and ongoing coaching after the January 2026 start. Year 1 Teacher — role & responsibilities
The Year 1 Teacher will plan and deliver systematic phonics, guided reading, early writing and number lessons. The Year 1 Teacher will assess and track pupil progress, run targeted small-group interventions and communicate regularly with parents. The Year 1 Teacher will contribute to enrichment activities, school trips and phase moderation. The Year 1 Teacher may also lead a small intervention group and support transition work into KS1.
Person specification (Year 1 Teacher)
We are seeking a Year 1 Teacher with QTS, confident phonics practice and a proven track record in KS1. The ideal Year 1 Teacher manages behaviour positively, differentiates clearly and works collaboratively in a team. The Year 1 Teacher should be ready to engage in pre-term planning and induction for the January 2026 start and to teach full-time from the January 2026 start.
Contract details & next steps
This is a Full-Time Year 1 Teacher post with a January 2026 start. The Full-Time contract comes with mentoring and CPD. The Full-Time Year 1 Teacher will receive induction and support before and after the January 2026 start.
