Finance and Operations Manager
MOTH is pioneering the next era of media, powered by quantum computing.
Every era of media is shaped by its defining technology - from broadcast to digital, from social to AI. Each shift hasn’t just changed distribution; it has rewritten the mechanics of how stories are created, processed, experienced and remembered.
Quantum is next and Moth is building that next leap. We’re building tools for Entertainment, Media, and Creative industries - democratising the awesome power of quantum computing by making it directly accessible to creators.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Moth is growing into an increasingly international business, with a dynamic team, multiple entities and operations across different jurisdictions. As we scale, the complexity and importance of our finance and operations continue to grow.
Operations at Moth today is run by a small, dynamic, hands-on team: we're at the stage of evolution, not maintenance. We move fast and cover a lot of ground, which means real, impactful work as we build and grow. We keep the engine running, so the rest of the team can focus on research and building.
Now we are looking to strengthen our team with a Finance & Operations Manager to help drive Moth’s next stage of growth. This role will take ownership of how our finance runs, day-to-day and beyond, while working alongside the wider Operations team on everything else.
You'll love this role if you're in your element when no two days look the same, if you enjoy figuring things out, jumping into new challenges, and spotting the small stuff most people wouldn't even notice. You're resourceful, adaptable, detail-oriented and confident you can figure it out if you sink your teeth in deep enough.
The role spans multiple workstreams, though finance sits at the core of it, and you'll be moving between projects as the business needs shift. This is a high-trust role as you'll support Moth's next stage as we scale, with unfiltered exposure to how the business runs, and a steep learning curve that keeps things genuinely interesting.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Keep the numbers honest . You'll run day-to-day financial operations across our entities and currencies, payroll, reporting, budget tracking, so at any point, someone can ask "where do we stand" and get a real answer.
Make sure money moves properly. Accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, banking, cash planning, you'll own the full cycle of payments going out and money coming in.
Help us see what's coming . Forecasting and financial modelling won't be your solo call, but you'll be right in the detail, helping turn uncertainty into a plan we can build on.
Be the reason nothing falls through the cracks . From onboarding a new hire to keeping our three offices (London, Basel and New York) running smoothly, you'll work closely with the rest of the Ops team, to hold together the everyday threads of a distributed team.
Keep the team connected and the events running . Internal comms, all-hands, external event logistics, you'll partner with the rest of the Ops team to make sure the practical side of staying in sync across our teams happens.
Streamline the stuff nobody wants to do twice . You'll help automate repetitive processes, so effort goes where it’s needed.
Write down what we’re streamlining . As those processes get better, you'll help document them properly, so the improvement sticks.
A few of the projects you’ll have the opportunity to be a part of:
Help us go global . As Moth opens new entities, you'll be part of building the operational and financial scaffolding that makes it work.
Put automation to real use . Alongside the team already exploring agentic AI, you'll help find where it can take genuine, repetitive weight off the business.
Support our next raise . From financial modelling and keeping the data room current to coordinating on investor pitches and Q&As, you’ll be in the mix.
WHY THIS ROLE MIGHT BE A GREAT FIT FOR YOU
You know how to run the numbers . You bring real FinOps experience, and a solid grip on the core financial fundamentals and can take ownership of the processes from day one.
You've built before . You've worked in general operations at a high-growth startup, and you genuinely love the ambiguity that comes with it.
Multi-tasking doesn't throw you . You're comfortable juggling several priorities and building with urgency when the moment calls for it.
You're a doer and hands-on . You like making things work, then making them work better.
AI tools are already part of how you work . You've experimented with automations, and it’s made you faster and more efficient.
The details don't slip past you . You're process-oriented in a way that isn't rigid, you just notice things other people miss.
WHAT WILL SET YOU APART
You've rolled out change before and survived it. You know what it takes to bring a new tech initiative into a business, and how to manage the fatigue that comes with asking people to work differently.
You have experience juggling the chaos that comes with multiple offices and entities, different time zones and currencies and processes that need refining.
You're genuinely curious about emerging tech , AI tools especially, and excited by the idea of joining a company that's building at the frontier of quantum and media.
WHY MOTH
This is your chance to help define how quantum-powered media is experienced in practice.
We are building at the edge of technology and culture. You will work closely with engineers, researchers and creatives who care deeply about what they are building. The problems are ambitious. The standards are high. The thinking is rigorous.
You won’t be optimising an established product. You will be shaping how entirely new tools and applications are designed, tested and brought into the world. How our core technologies are interacted with — and understood — will, in part, be yours.
If you are energised by complexity, and excited by the idea of building systems that do not yet exist, you will thrive here.
Moth is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences, and we make hiring decisions based on merit and fit for the role, not on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
APPLICATION PROCESS
To give you an idea of what to expect, here is what the interview process looks like:
Step 1 : A written application (30 to 45 minutes)
Your CV only tells a small part of the story, so the questions are designed for you to fill in the blanks and are an important part of the selection process. Please don't use LLMs to answer them, while we use them heavily in our own work (this role involves using them daily), we'd like your answers to be written by you. What matters most to us is the substance of your answers. Your application will be read by humans who care.
Step 2 : Call with the current Operations Manager who will be your teammate if you end up working with Moth (45 minutes).
Step 3 : An in-person interview with the COO/CFO and Operations Manager at our London office (1 hour).
Step 4 : Offer, references and background checks.
