About Albany Beck
Albany Beck is a Management Consultancy focused on providing specialist talent and transformative solutions to Financial Services clients. We combine subject matter expertise with innovative delivery models that help clients scale efficiently, while offering meaningful, long-term career opportunities to our people. At Albany Beck, you'll be choosing to work with an organisation that's passionate about your learning journey and committed to your professional and personal development.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Business Data Analyst with strong insurance domain expertise to join a long-term data transformation programme supporting a leading insurance organisation.
This role will play a critical part in improving enterprise-wide data quality, consistency and ownership across the group. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, operations teams, data modellers and technology teams to resolve existing data deficiencies and establish a single, agreed view of business data.
The team is driving a multi-year data transformation programme focused on building a single source of truth and delivering business value through a new Snowflake platform. This is a highly operational role with a strong emphasis on data quality, governance and business alignment rather than cloud engineering.
We are looking for a hands-on problem solver who is comfortable working with ambiguity, challenging existing processes and leading discussions to establish clear data hierarchies, business definitions and ownership models across multiple stakeholders.
The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of insurance operations, data structures and SQL-based data analysis to support transformation initiatives and drive lasting improvements in data governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive enterprise-wide data quality improvement initiatives across multiple business domains
- Define, document and align critical data hierarchies and business definitions across the organisation
- Identify, analyse and resolve data inconsistencies across systems and processes
- Work closely with stakeholders to establish a single, agreed view of business data
- Investigate and remediate existing data deficiencies and break down interdependencies between systems and teams
- Analyse complex datasets using SQL to identify trends, issues and opportunities for improvement
- Support data governance initiatives by defining ownership, accountability and standards
- Partner with insurance operations teams to understand business processes and data flows
- Collaborate with Data Modellers, Business SMEs and technology teams to support transformation activities
- Resolve alignment issues across core insurance platforms, including Policy Administration Systems (PAS)
- Improve data consistency for critical domains such as risk location data
- Support the delivery of a single source of truth across the organisation
- Contribute to project and transformation initiatives within a multi-year strategic programme
- Facilitate workshops and stakeholder discussions to gain alignment on business requirements and data standards
- Challenge existing assumptions and drive pragmatic, business-led solutions
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong Business Data Analyst experience within the insurance industry
- Deep understanding of insurance operations, business processes and data structures
- Strong SQL skills with the ability to manipulate, interrogate and analyse data
- Experience reviewing and understanding SQL code (engineering/development knowledge advantageous)
- Proven experience improving data quality, consistency and governance frameworks
- Strong experience defining business hierarchies, data definitions and ownership models
- Experience working with Policy Administration Systems (PAS)
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to navigate competing priorities and different versions of the truth
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Hands-on approach with the ability to work independently in ambiguous environments
- Experience working alongside Data Modellers and cross-functional teams
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
- Ability to drive outcomes within large-scale transformation programmes
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
- Experience working on enterprise-wide data transformation programmes
- Strong understanding of data governance principles and operating models
- Experience establishing a single source of truth across multiple business domains
- Experience working within regulated insurance environments
- Proven ability to lead through problems rather than predetermined solutions
- Experience working on long-term strategic initiatives with multiple stakeholder groups
- Knowledge of risk location data and insurance data domains is highly desirable
- Familiarity with modern data platforms and data management practices
