Deputy Head of English - About the Role The successful candidate will support the Head of English in the strategic leadership of the department, ensuring high-quality teaching, strong outcomes and an engaging, inclusive curriculum. You will contribute to the development of departmental initiatives, lead key areas of teaching and learning, and play a vital role in maintaining a culture of high aspiration. Deputy Head of English - Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of English in the leadership and management of the English department
- Lead on curriculum development, assessment and teaching strategies across KS3 and KS4 (and KS5 where applicable)
- Model outstanding classroom practice, fostering a positive learning environment
- Use data effectively to monitor progress, identify underachievement and plan impactful interventions
- Support and mentor colleagues, contributing to professional development across the department
- Promote high standards of literacy, engagement and progress for all students
- Play an active role in departmental quality assurance, including lesson observations and book monitoring
- QTS and strong experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
- A track record of excellent classroom practice and strong pupil outcomes
- Experience contributing to curriculum planning or leading aspects of a department
- The ability to inspire, motivate and support colleagues
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively
- A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and high expectations for all learners
- MPS-UPS salary, dependent on experience
