Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
A caring and inclusive primary school in the London Borough of Barnet is seeking a committed EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant to join its Early Years team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young children with additional needs and helping them build strong foundations for learning.
About the School
The school is a well-respected, community-focused primary that places inclusion, wellbeing, and early intervention at the centre of its practice. The Early Years Foundation Stage offers a calm, engaging, and play-based environment where children are encouraged to explore, communicate, and develop independence.
The school has a strong SEN structure in place, with an experienced SENCo and close collaboration between staff, families, and external professionals. Staff are supported through clear guidance, teamwork, and ongoing professional development.
The Role
You will work with children in Nursery or Reception who require additional support to access learning and school routines. Pupils may have a range of needs, including autism spectrum condition (ASC), speech and language difficulties, global developmental delay, sensory needs, or social and emotional challenges.
Support will be delivered through a combination of 1:1 support and small-group interventions, helping children to feel confident, secure, and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted SEN support in line with EHCPs and individual support plans
Support access to the EYFS curriculum through structured play and adult-led activities
Promote communication, interaction, and social development
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
Use visual supports, routines, and sensory strategies
Assist with personal care and toileting where required
Observe, monitor, and record progress
Work closely with teachers, the SENCo, and external professionals
Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection
Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
Have experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in EYFS
Be patient, empathetic, and nurturing
Have a good understanding of early childhood development
Be reliable, flexible, and proactive
Work effectively as part of a team
Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or SEN are desirable but not essential.
What the School Offers
A welcoming and inclusive working environment
Ongoing EYFS and SEN training
Supportive leadership and mentoring
Well-resourced Early Years provision
Opportunities for professional growth and progression
This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on children’s early educational experiences.
