At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

The future of rail is being redefined—and this is your chance to play a leading role in that journey.

As a Senior Rolling Stock Engineer, you'll help deliver the trains, technologies and fleet strategies that keep passengers moving safely, efficiently and sustainably. Whether supporting the introduction of new rolling stock, improving the performance of existing fleets, or evaluating emerging technologies, your expertise will directly influence the success of major rail programmes.

Working with train operators, rolling stock owners, manufacturers and government organisations, you'll help solve complex engineering challenges and drive solutions that support decarbonisation, improve reliability, and enhance the passenger experience.

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of rail transportation.

About the opportunity

You'll join a highly regarded rail engineering team delivering strategic advice and technical expertise across the rolling stock lifecycle.

From helping clients procure and introduce new fleets to improving the performance and maintenance of existing vehicles, you'll provide practical solutions to some of the industry's most complex challenges.

You'll be involved in activities such as:

  • Supporting new rolling stock programmes and fleet introductions
  • Developing technical requirements and specifications
  • Conducting engineering assessments and design reviews
  • Supporting testing, commissioning and acceptance activities
  • Evaluating innovative rail technologies and future mobility solutions
  • Advising clients on fleet performance, maintenance and operational readiness
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful project outcomes

This role offers the perfect blend of technical depth, client engagement and strategic influence.

Here's what you'll need

  • Proven experience introducing new rolling stock and supporting the maintenance and operation of existing fleets
  • Detailed knowledge of rail vehicles and systems gained with a consultant, operator, manufacturer, or infrastructure manager
  • Degree, HNC, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline
  • Understanding of modern rolling stock systems and an eagerness to learn emerging technologies
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to lead workstreams or contribute as a key member of a delivery team
  • A strategic, solution-focused mindset with the ability to adapt and thrive in a changing environment
  • Exposure to decarbonisation within the rolling stock environment
