Premises Manager – Primary School – Havering

Start Date: As soon as possible

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: Paid to scale

A well-established primary school in the London Borough of Havering is seeking an experienced and proactive Premises Manager to oversee the management of its buildings and grounds. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong facilities management experience who enjoys leading a team and ensuring pupils learn in a safe, secure and well-maintained environment.

Working closely with the Headteacher and School Business Manager, you will manage the daily operation of the school site, oversee maintenance programmes and ensure all statutory compliance requirements are met. You will play a key role in maintaining excellent standards across the school's facilities while supporting future improvement projects.

The successful candidate will be an organised leader with excellent practical knowledge and a commitment to providing an outstanding environment for pupils and staff.

Premises Team

The Premises Team is responsible for ensuring the school site remains safe, compliant and fully operational throughout the year.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the daily operation of the school site.

  • Leading the premises and cleaning teams.

  • Coordinating planned and reactive maintenance.

  • Managing contractors and external service providers.

  • Overseeing statutory health and safety compliance.

  • Monitoring fire safety systems and emergency procedures.

  • Managing premises budgets and maintenance schedules.

  • Preparing facilities for school events and community use.

  • Maintaining compliance records and documentation.

  • Planning future site improvement projects.

  • Monitoring site security and access arrangements.

  • Ensuring the school remains safe, secure and welcoming at all times.

The successful candidate will become an important member of the leadership support team, helping maintain a high-quality learning environment for every child.

Requirements

  • Previous premises or facilities management experience.

  • Experience leading a team.

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation.

  • Good practical maintenance skills.

  • Excellent organisational and leadership abilities.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to manage contractors and budgets.

  • Professional and proactive approach.
