King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has a full-time vacancy for a Band 6 Senior Clinical Coding Analyst ACC at our Denmark Hill location in London.
Senior Clinical Coding Analysts play a pivotal role in the management of the coding department, assisting a small team of coders to meet deadlines, mentoring junior coders and coordinating meetings with clinical staff to validate coded data.
Main duties of the job
The right candidate will have good interpersonal skills, an extensive knowledge of clinical coding rules and conventions, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and be able to meet strict monthly Trust deadlines.
The ability to communicate effectively with clinicians, nursing staff and other health professionals is essential to this role as we move forward with clinical validation of coding and engagement.
The successful candidate must hold the Accredited Clinical Coding (ACC) Qualification.
You will have access to training courses and workshops delivered by our in-house Clinical Coding Training Team, and support to further your career in clinical coding. In addition, you will also have an option of working remotely on a part-time basis, up to 80% of your workable hours, subject to service needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsibilities/Service Quality
· To assist in resolving coding queries as raised by members of the Clinical Coding team, sharing expertise and assisting in the interpretation of complex information ensuring national standards are met.
· To act as liaison point with designated coders to discuss coding issues, and to provide advice on clinical documentation.
· To liaise with clinical/audit staff to reach a firm decision as to diagnosis and procedure to be coded. This may require advising and agreeing on sequencing of coding to help provide quality data for the Trust
· Liaise with clinical staff and administration staff throughout the Trust to locate and collate all appropriate source material.
· Access a variety of information systems e.g. pathology to obtain information to enhance and ensure completeness and accuracy of coding by checking results.
· Demonstrate a high degree of compliance and discipline in accordance with complex changing terminology and their relationship to new surgical techniques and all new changes in the diagnostic fields related to the classification and medicine.
· Support the Coding Manager in ensuring all outstanding coding is completed by SUS flex date.
· To implement policies for own work area and propose policy or service changes which impact on the Trust.
· Ensure all queries raised by other Trust staff are resolved promptly and effectively, or where appropriate are referred to the Clinical Coding Auditors/Coding Quality Manager or Coding Delivery Manager.
· Attend alone or accompany where necessary the Coding Manager to discuss coding issues with clinical staff maintaining good links to improve and ensure good quality coded data.
· Work with clinicians and managers to resolve issues with the coding process.
· Provide day to day support for less experienced coding staff to assist with problem resolution.
· Support the use of local coding policies which impact on medical staff and other clinicians as defined by the Trust’s Coding Policy
· Provide diagnostic, procedural or statistical information when requested.
· Give feedback on coding and documentation queries to the coding management team.
· Prioritise and plan your own daily and weekly work pattern.
· In the absence of the Coding Manager, support the role to cover urgent issues.
· Undertake delegated responsibilities and any other duties as requested from the Coding Manager.
· Support other Divisions during S/L and A/L if necessary.
Team Work
· Work with those you support to develop a collaborative working partnership which positively contributes to their overall efficiency and role performance.
· Ensure that where patient records are stored within the coding offices they are done so in a safe manner and that all patient records are tracked according to Trust policy. Coding staff must work within the processes for the Patient Records Service for notes maintenance and data recording.
· Demonstrate effective organisational and time management skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, be highly motivated and lead by example to motivate others.
Training
· Participate in internal and external training programmes, workshops and seminars as required and ensure maintenance of a portfolio of evidence, professional accreditation and experience...
· Attend mandatory training sessions including specialised workshops and Mandatory 3 year refresher Course
· Maintain and update as necessary a personal copy of the relevant coding manuals, in accordance with national standards and guidance from line managers, and to refer to those manuals on a daily basis.
· Receive training in, and acquire skills in new clinical coding schemes, such as SNOMED CT in accordance with local plans and timetables.

Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a large Clinical Coding department within the NHS
- Experience of meeting deadlines
- Extensive knowledge of A&P and Medical Terminiology
- Understanding of HRG formation
Desirable criteria
- Medicode experience
- Familiar with using an EPR system (e.g EPIC)
- Experience in remote working
