Exams Officer – Outstanding Secondary School – Hackney
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Paid to scale
School Information:
This is an 11 to 18 Outstanding Ofsted Rated School located in the heart of Hackney. The school is widely recognised for its exceptional academic standards, well-established pastoral systems, and strong operational structure that supports both staff and students in achieving excellence. The school serves a diverse inner-London community and maintains a highly inclusive ethos where every young person is supported to thrive, regardless of background or starting point.
Classrooms and shared spaces are calm, purposeful, and student-centred. Behaviour across the school is consistently outstanding, with clear routines and an embedded culture of mutual respect. The school has invested significantly in modern facilities, including updated ICT suites, a newly developed sixth form study centre, and advanced digital infrastructure that supports teaching, learning, and administrative efficiency.
The leadership team places high importance on strengthening support departments such as HR, finance, and exams administration, recognising that successful operations underpin academic excellence. Staff morale is strong, communication channels are open and transparent, and collaboration is encouraged across all levels. This supportive and cohesive environment makes it an excellent setting for an Exams Officer seeking a long-term, stable role.

The department manages timetabling, candidate registration, access arrangements, exam entry submissions, invigilation rotas, safeguarding checks, and all associated communications. The team works in a highly structured yet responsive environment, adapting to changes in exam regulations, awarding body updates, and internal school needs. During exam seasons, the department becomes the organisational engine of the school, requiring strong prioritisation, calm under pressure, and meticulous attention to detail.
Your role will include:
• Planning and administering all internal mock exams and formal exam seasons.
• Liaising with exam boards to ensure entries, amendments, deadlines, and compliance are met.
• Coordinating invigilators, including recruitment, training, safeguarding checks, and scheduling.
• Managing access arrangements in collaboration with the SEN team.
• Ensuring the secure handling, storage, and dispatch of exam papers and materials.
• Communicating key information to students, staff, and parents.
• Ensuring full compliance with JCQ regulations at all times.
• Overseeing exam results days, including data preparation, grade checking, and post-results services.
Requirements:
• Strong administrative background (school experience highly desirable).
• Excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Experience using SIMS, Arbor, or other school databases (advantageous).
• Ability to work under pressure, especially during exam seasons.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of JCQ or exam board regulations (training provided if needed).
• A professional, discreet, and responsible approach.
