Senior Quantity Surveyor
An established infrastructure organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and provide commercial assurance across a diverse portfolio of projects.
The role will focus on ensuring value for money, contractual compliance, effective cost control and strong commercial governance across projects at different stages of the lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors, providing direction, support and ongoing development.
- Provide commercial assurance across a portfolio of major projects and programmes.
- Provide commercial and contractual advice to project and delivery teams.
- Review, challenge and negotiate project tenders to ensure robust commercial outcomes.
- Ensure payments are accurately assessed, certified and made in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Assess and manage changes, variations, extensions of time and associated financial impacts.
- Support the effective management and optimisation of project budgets and expenditure.
- Collect, analyse and maintain accurate commercial and project data to support reporting and decision-making.
- Audit, review and agree project accounts and ensure appropriate financial controls are maintained.
- Monitor contractual compliance across the delivery portfolio and identify areas of non-performance, risk or potential exposure.
- Work with stakeholders to implement corrective actions where required.
- Identify and manage commercial and contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support senior commercial colleagues with the assessment and resolution of claims and disputes.
- Provide commercial insight and assurance to senior stakeholders across the project portfolio.
Experience Required
- Extensive experience managing a portfolio of projects from a commercial perspective, covering both pre- and post-contract stages.
- Recent experience of leading or managing a team of Quantity Surveyors .
- Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent commercial discipline.
- Strong knowledge of contract administration, cost management and commercial governance.
- Experience negotiating with contractors and suppliers across commercial and contractual matters.
- Demonstrable experience dealing with variations, extensions of time, claims and/or dispute resolution.
- Strong understanding of project and contractual risk and the ability to identify and mitigate commercial exposure.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence project and senior management teams.
- Strong analytical and commercial judgement with the ability to challenge assumptions and drive value for money.
- Self-motivated, resilient and comfortable operating in a complex project environment.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to operational or project locations when required.
Desirable
- Experience within a regulated infrastructure, utilities, construction, engineering or similarly complex project environment.
- Knowledge of working within a formal regulatory, governance or investment framework.
- Professional membership or chartered status with a recognised Quantity Surveying / commercial body.
