Year 1 Teacher | Sutton
A welcoming primary school in Sutton is seeking a nurturing Year 1 Teacher to start January 2026. The Year 1 Teacher will deliver a carefully sequenced early-years-to-KS1 curriculum that secures rapid progress in phonics, reading, emergent writing and number. The successful Year 1 Teacher will work closely with teaching assistants, lead targeted interventions and communicate regularly with families. An induction programme will run ahead of January 2026 to ensure the Year 1 Teacher is well prepared for the spring term.

This Year 1 Teacher role requires a practitioner skilled in phonics delivery, formative assessment and creating a calm, purposeful classroom culture. The Sutton school offers supportive leadership and structured CPD to help the Year 1 Teacher refine practice and secure excellent outcomes for children.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality Year 1 lessons that build phonics progression and early literacy.
- Use daily assessment to identify learning gaps and implement small-group support.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure coherence across KS1 and smooth transitions.
- Maintain clear records and keep families informed of progress and next steps.
- Contribute to school events and enrichment activities in Sutton.
Person specification
- Qualified teacher with recent experience in early years or KS1 and strong phonics knowledge.
- Organised, reflective and able to create a positive learning environment.
- Enthusiastic about contributing to the Sutton school community and available to start January 2026.
