Social Worker - Emergency Duty Team (EDT)
You will provide an emergency, out-of-hours social work service , responding to urgent safeguarding concerns and delivering timely interventions to keep children and vulnerable adults safe. This role requires independence, resilience, and the ability to make proportionate, defensible decisions under pressure while working closely with partner agencies. What You Will Do
Crisis Response & Safeguarding Respond to out-of-hours contacts involving children at risk of significant harm, vulnerable adults, and urgent mental health crises. Undertake rapid risk assessments and implement immediate protective actions. Arrange emergency accommodation, initiate child protection plans, or coordinate Mental Health Act assessments (if AMHP qualified). Casework & Decision-Making Work independently, making sound professional judgments in high-pressure situations. Record all decisions and actions accurately and ensure smooth handover to daytime services. Multi-Agency Working Liaise with police, health services, housing, and other partners to coordinate emergency interventions. Attend strategy meetings, legal planning sessions, or emergency court hearings when required. Professional Practice Maintain Social Work England registration and keep your practice knowledge current. Engage in regular supervision and reflective practice. Person Specification
Qualifications: Recognised Social Work qualification (BA/MA Social Work, DipSW, CQSW). Social Work England registration. AMHP qualification desirable (or willingness to work toward one). Experience: Significant post-qualification experience in statutory social work, ideally including duty or crisis work. Strong understanding of the Children Act 1989/2004, Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, and Mental Capacity Act 2005. Skills: Excellent crisis management and risk assessment ability. Strong communication and decision-making skills. Resilience and ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced situations. Why Enfield?
