Credit Risk Manager
The story of Fairlo began when our founders, Jimmy and Shamon, saw first-hand how unfair and predatory lending practices can trap people in cycles of debt. Their mother had been misled by a large bank, and instead of being offered a lifeline, she was pushed further into financial difficulties. That injustice sparked something: to build a company that reimagines credit - rooted in transparency, flexibility, and respect. That company became Fairlo.
Where we are now
Since launching in 2018, Fairlo has helped tens of thousands of customers access responsible credit when life happens. With 45,000+ active users, a 4.7 Trustpilot rating from 4 100+ reviews, and an incredibly low churn rate, we’re proving that transparency and flexibility is not only the right thing to do - it’s a winning model.
We’re a tight team of 40 people based in Stockholm, Crete, and the UK. Backed by some of Sweden’s most experienced investors and driven by a culture that prizes kindness, courage, collaboration and common sense, we’re very proud of what we’ve built so far.
Where we’re going
In line with our long-term vision, we’re now entering the most exciting chapter in Fairlo’s journey so far: we’re becoming a bank. This next phase is about building a purpose-driven, transparent bank, scaling responsibly, driving innovation, and creating financial products that genuinely support people through every stage of life - all while staying true to our mission of building a more fair world, even when it comes to money.
That’s where you come in.
Are you our next hire in the UK?
This is not a typical credit risk role.
We are looking for a builder. You will be a foundational member of our UK launch.
We are looking for someone who understands that in a startup, credit risk isn't just about spreadsheets and models - it's about the entire lending lifecycle. You will effectively be the engine room of the UK business. You will support the initial lending, define how we fight fraud, and shape the product to ensure we can scale.
You will have the autonomy to make decisions and the responsibility to fix what breaks. We don't need a spectator; we need a doer who acts like a business owner. If you see a bug, you drive the fix. If a customer is stuck, you solve it. If the data looks wrong, you find out why.
What you will build & own:
The UK credit engine: You will drive the initial lending strategies for the UK market. You will constantly iterate and refine our credit models to ensure that we don't just scale, but that we build a portfolio rooted in positive unit economics and sustainable profitability.
Total ownership of fraud: You will be the first line of defense. You will manage the fraud rules, monitor application flows, and spot the patterns that others miss. You will stop bad actors while ensuring good customers flow through effortlessly.
Product & operational excellence: You are the bridge between Risk and Product. You will relentlessly hunt for friction in the user journey. When things break (and they will), you won’t just report it - you will work with Engineering to drive the solution.
The customer experience: You are the ultimate escalation point. To build the best product, you need to understand the user. You will be willing to get hands-on with complex customer cases to understand why they were rejected or where they got stuck, using those insights to improve our policy.
What you will have:
A "Builder" mindset: You thrive on the intensity of building a business from the ground up. You don’t wait for a playbook; you write it. You are willing to do whatever it takes to make the UK business successful, whether that’s high-level strategy or operational troubleshooting.
UK lending expertise: You have solid experience in UK consumer lending (5+ years). You know the data that matters, you understand the regulatory landscape, and you know what "good" looks like in this market.
Analytical rigour: You make decisions based on data, not gut feeling. You are comfortable digging into the numbers to find the truth.
Bias for action: You are a "fixer". You don't pass problems down the line. You take ownership of outcomes, from the credit loss rate to the stability of the onboarding flow.
Resilience & adaptability: You thrive in small teams. You are comfortable moving fast, changing direction when the data tells you to, and handling the pressure of building a business from the ground up.
Where you’ll work:
Split between our UK office and home, with occasional travel to our tech hub in Crete and HQ in Stockholm, Sweden. We offer a hybrid model, competitive benefits, and - most importantly - a deeply supportive and purpose-driven culture.
If you’re ready to combine your credit expertise with a mission that truly matters, we’d love to meet you. Apply today and join us in creating a more fair financial world.
