The role

HTSI the FTs multi-award-winning luxury lifestyle magazine is seeking an assistant editor to help shape our fully integrated print and digital content.

This is a rare chance to join a title known for its sharp journalism imaginative storytelling and distinctive visual style a place where design fashion interiors travel and culture meet the authority of the Financial Times.

You will be part of a small collaborative team with real scope to influence the magazines voice develop standout ideas and work with some of the most talented writers photographers and designers in the industry.

HTSI publishes 42 print issues a year and runs a vibrant digital presence across web and social giving you the opportunity to work across multiple formats and bring stories to life in different mediums.

Its an exciting environment for someone who enjoys both the pace of a newsroom and the craft of long-form storytelling. Youll also play a role shaping HTSIs involvement in major FT events bringing the magazines perspective to panels workshops and live conversations.

The successful applicant will have previous experience of commissioning and editing on a quality consumer magazine and relish working across a broad range of content. They will have worked on digital and print publications and across different social media platforms.

They will also have:

  • a good knowledge of the luxury industry with a particular interest in design interiors and the property market
  • an elegant and sensitive editing style and the capacity to write a variety of features when needed
  • the ability to conjure up original headlines and standfirsts

Key responsibilities:

  • Commission and edit regular features that appear in the magazine
  • Commission and bring in ideas for long-form pieces of journalism
  • Negotiate exclusive interviews alongside other members of the team
  • Commission edit and maintain schedules with freelance writers
  • Write features where required
  • Work closely with the picture editor designer and art desk on all aspects of story presentation across print mobile and digital platforms
  • Work with the rest of the team year-round to plan HTSI events; help plan and execute Q&A sessions workshops or panels at the FT Weekend festival
  • Nurture new writers as well as editing some of the FTs longest-serving columnists and correspondents

FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite a minimum of three days per week subject to role requirements and regular review. While flexible working requests will be considered not all patterns are suitable for Editorial roles.
