The School of Life Course & Population Sciences is one of five Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at Kings College London. The School unites over 400 experts in Ophthalmology, Women and childrens health, Nutritional sciences, Population health, and Twin research and genetic epidemiology. Our research links the causes of common health problems to lifes landmark stages, treating life, disease and healthcare as a continuum. We are interdisciplinary by nature and this innovative approach works: 91 per cent of our research submitted to the Subjects Allied to Medicine (Pharmacy, Nutritional Sciences and Women's Health cluster) for REF was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. We use this expertise to teach the next generation of health professionals and research scientists. Based across Kings Guys, St Thomas, Waterloo, and Denmark Hill, campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments.

About the role
This research will focus on a project aimed at testing new therapeutic drugs and targets in glaucoma. The post-holder will perform in vitro cell-based assays, such as contraction, gene expression and toxicity tests, and assist in animal in vivo studies. Responsibilities include teaching/supervision of other researchers and managing the lab (ordering, managing tissue samples and equipment, receipt and transfer of materials).
The postholders responsibilities will thus be:
- Research and scholarship. The appointee will perform in vitro lab and in vivo animal studies, and data analysis related to the project. The appointee will attend regular progress meetings to ensure the successful conduct of the project.
- Teaching and supervision of other researchers.
- Managing lab , such as ordering, managing tissue samples and equipment, receipt and transfer of materials.
- Dissemination of research , including working on publications and attending meetings.
The post holder will be responsible to Dr Cynthia Yu-Wai-Man.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term 1-year contract, from 1st of February 2027 to 31st January 2028.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. PhD qualified in relevant subject area, for example Biological Science or similar
2. Research experience in cell culture and molecular biology
3. Research experience in animal and in vivo studies
4. Excellent data analysis skills
5. Excellent communication and research dissemination skills
6. Excellent time and resource management
Desirable criteria
1. Research experience in glaucoma or fibrosis
2. Publications in peer reviewed journals

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Fellow and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
