About the Role

As Assistant Engineering Manager, you’ll be at the centre of our London operations—leading workshop teams, maintaining high engineering standards, and ensuring our vehicles are always ready for service.

You’ll bring together technical expertise and leadership to support a fast-paced, high-demand urban network where reliability and safety are critical.

  • Maximise fleet availability to support consistent service across London routes

  • Ensure rapid response to breakdowns and defects, minimising disruption in a busy city environment

  • Maintain high standards of repair, MOT preparation, and compliance

  • Carry out quality audits and ensure all maintenance records are accurate and up to date

  • Work closely with operational teams to manage vehicle allocation and availability

  • Lead on Health & Safety, promoting a strong safety-first culture

  • Supervise, motivate, and develop your team to perform at their best

  • Remain hands-on when required, supporting with mechanical, electrical, and servicing work

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong engineering experience in vehicle, HGV, or heavy equipment maintenance

  • Ideally, experience working in a high-demand, urban transport environment (London experience is a plus)

  • A recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship (mechanical/electrical or equivalent)

  • Solid knowledge of Health & Safety practices (IOSH desirable)

  • Proven leadership ability with a track record of managing and developing teams

  • A proactive, resilient approach suited to a fast-paced city operation

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary of £63,000

  • Full-time, permanent role

  • Monday–Friday day shifts (flexibility required)

  • Excellent career progression opportunities within a major London transport operator

  • Dedicated one-to-one mentoring and development support

  • Access to training courses and professional certifications

  • Free bus travel for you and a nominated family member

  • Access to Arriva Village – retail discounts worth up to £1,200 per year

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

  • Company pension
