We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and committed Year 5 Teacher to join a vibrant and inclusive primary school in Brixton, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about Upper Key Stage 2 and enjoys delivering engaging, challenging lessons that prepare pupils for the transition into Year 6.

The school is proud of its diverse community and inclusive ethos. Staff work collaboratively to create a positive learning environment where pupils feel valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. Senior leadership is approachable and supportive, offering clear guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.

The Role

As a Year 5 Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality lessons across the Key Stage 2 curriculum. You will promote independence, resilience, and high expectations while supporting pupils’ academic progress and personal development. Working closely with teaching assistants and colleagues, you will ensure all pupils, including those with SEND and EAL, are fully supported.

You will also play an important role in preparing pupils for the demands of Year 6, supporting them academically and emotionally. Strong communication with parents and carers is essential to ensure consistent support and strong home–school relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons across the Year 5 curriculum

  • Maintain a structured, inclusive, and positive classroom environment

  • Track pupil progress and maintain accurate assessment records

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and KS2 colleagues

  • Communicate regularly with parents and carers regarding pupil progress

  • Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and whole-school initiatives

  • Support enrichment activities and school events

  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed

  • Have experience teaching in Upper Key Stage 2, ideally Year 5

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and organisational skills

  • Be reflective, adaptable, and proactive

  • Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing

  • Work effectively as part of a professional and supportive team

Location
