Interim Head of Procurement & Commercial - NHS

Location: London (2-3 days onsite)

Contract Length: 6-Months initially

Rate: Up to GBP800 a day Inside IR35

A newly established healthcare organisation is seeking an experienced Head of Procurement, Commercial & Enterprise Growth to build and lead its procurement and commercial function during a significant period of growth and transformation. This is a unique opportunity for a senior procurement leader who combines strong public sector procurement expertise with commercial strategy and enterprise growth experience. The role will be responsible for establishing procurement governance and capability, while also identifying new commercial opportunities, strategic partnerships and revenue-generating services.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead the Procurement & Commercial function from the ground up.
• Establish procurement governance, policies and operating procedures.
• Lead complex procurement activity across digital, technology, healthcare and professional services categories.
• Develop commercial strategies that support organisational growth and long-term sustainability.
• Identify opportunities for income generation, shared services and new service offerings.
• Evaluate strategic partnerships, joint ventures and external commercial opportunities.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to shape business cases, investment decisions and delivery strategies.
• Build and develop a high-performing procurement and commercial team.

Essential Experience

• Senior procurement leadership experience within the NHS, wider public sector, arm's-length bodies or central government.
• Proven experience leading complex, high-value procurement programmes.
• Strong background in digital and technology procurement.
• Experience establishing or transforming procurement functions.
• Knowledge of public sector procurement frameworks and governance.
• Demonstrable experience developing commercial strategies or growth initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.

Desirable

• Experience creating income-generating services, shared service models or commercial ventures.
• Background in healthcare, digital health or public sector transformation programmes.
• Knowledge of Provider Selection Regime (PSR) and public sector frameworks.
• MCIPS qualified or working towards.
