London

The Company:

Influence is a global sports agency with a proven track record of harnessing the power of sport to elevate the world’s leading brands, teams and rights holders. Specialising in premium and high-tech sports, our work connects fans and brands with the magic of sport. Based in London with offices in New York, Riyadh and Singapore we offer strategic consultancy, commercial sales, partnership activation, PR & communications and content creation. The team has a wealth of experience and long-standing relationships in motorsport, sailing, golf, pro-cycling and tennis.

The Role:

Influence is looking for a Sports Copywriter and Sub Editor to lead the editorial and written content strategy and output for some of the world’s leading brands in sport. The successful candidate will have proven experience managing high-profile editorial content, key stakeholders and working across multiple sports and brands.

We are looking for a candidate who has a profound passion for sport and an ability to tell stories around its greatest events and athletes. As the agency's definitive editorial voice, you will be expected to manage client accounts under pressure, coordinate with multiple internal teams, execute flawless copywriting and sub-editing, and drive the agency's written standards to new heights.

The role offers a great balance of working independently and within a supportive team. The candidate must have at least five years of experience working in a copywriting, editorial, or sub-editing role within the sporting world.

Responsibilities:

  • Fully accountable for the successful strategic planning, creation and implementation of high-end copy and editorial content on brief and to deadline

  • Craft premium written content, always with the client’s tone of voice and brand messaging in mind, including thought-leadership pieces, press kits, press releases, brochures, etc

  • Act as the final point of rigorous quality control for the agency, sub-editing and proofing press releases, feature stories, brochures, proposals and client communications to ensure absolute perfection and brand alignment

  • Take ownership of multiple clients' unique tones of voice and style guides, ensuring consistency across all content, while bearing in mind the strategy, target audience and key markets

  • Manage editorial workflows and copy deadlines across multiple key accounts in a fast-paced environment, working closely with the client teams to understand the desired output, ensuring we consistently deliver for clients.

  • Constantly reviewing processes and ensure learnings are reflected in future content

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the clients’ businesses and the sectors in which they operate, as well as monitor key trends and follow stories across the sporting world, with a focus on motorsport, golf, equestrian, sailing, yachting and tennis.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience in sports copywriting, sub-editing or sports journalism at a senior level

  • Exceptional command of the English language with meticulous attention to detail, editing, grammar, and proofing

  • Knowledgeable and passionate about sport, particularly premium sectors such as motorsport, sailing, tennis and golf

  • A proven track record of producing compelling copy for a variety of high-profile clients

  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced agency environment under pressure

  • Well organised and able to meet strict internal and external deadlines

  • Conscientious and proactive with a deep understanding of the evolving media and digital landscape

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

  • Fully literate in Microsoft Office software, specifically Powerpoint, Outlook, Word and Excel

  • Fluent English speaker, with foreign languages a bonus

  • Given the nature of the sporting calendar and global events, you will have to work approximately 20 weekends a year (lieu days will be granted for weekends worked)

  • We are in the office 4 days a week (Monday to Thursday, with Friday work from home). Please note, this role allows for greater flexibility, depending on team requirements and client needs.
