This is an interim role to cover the band 7 bereavement job at the PRUH and South Sites. This role would be suitable for a job share, and the candidate is not limited only to working dually with a labour ward role. Applications from staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings will be considered.
This role is fundamental in coordinating the maternity bereavement services that we offer. This involves face to face support to bereaved families, and requires collaboration with other agencies to enable bereavement processes .
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be balanced, organised and confident in supporting families through a difficult event. They will have exceptional communication skills, compassion and resilience. They will have a solid foundation of knowledge around the legal documentation required for registering stillbirths, neonatal deaths and so forth. They will have relevant recent experience of providing clinical care to families who are bereaved.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To facilitate the provision of a sensitive, responsive and compassionate service to all women and their families who have experienced bereavement due to miscarriage, stillbirth, termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality or neonatal death.
To facilitate and co-ordinate the education of the multi-disciplinary maternity team in all aspects of bereavement care and to ensure that systems and processes are in place so that care is co-ordinated and delivered in a way that is compassionate and sensitive to women’s individual needs. Through effective clinical leadership and role modelling the post holder will be able to inspire, motivate and empower others.
To provide support, advice and signposting for bereaved families and staff members.
To be responsible for coordinating care pathways and for ensuring that all policies and protocols relevant to the service provided are current and comply with National Guidance.
To display an attitude of professionalism and promote best practice at all times.
To contribute to maternity and newborn safety initiative programmes

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RM qualification at degree level and active on NMC register.
- Evidence of further study and development of professional and academic skills.
- Sound knowledge of recent government/professional documents with awareness of implications to service provision.
- Appropriate level of clinical experience with a minimum requirement of completion of preceptorship programme
- Ability to exercise professional accountability and autonomy.
- Able to recognise own limitations in order to seek advice appropriately.
- Experience of working in stressful situations with bereaved parents and families
Desirable criteria
- Experience of Teaching in Multi-disciplinary settings
- Attendance at additional bereavement study days or conferences (e.g. MBRRACE)
