EYFS Teaching Assistant

Role Overview
The EYFS Teaching Assistant will work alongside class teachers and the Early Years team to support children in Nursery and Reception. You will assist in the delivery of the Early Years curriculum, ensuring that learning experiences are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
Your role will involve supporting children’s learning across all developmental areas, including communication and language, literacy, numeracy, personal, social, and emotional development, and physical development. You will provide guidance and support during structured activities, play-based learning, and daily routines, ensuring that each child feels safe, confident, and motivated to learn.
This position is ideal for someone who is patient, observant, and empathetic, and who understands the importance of play and exploration in fostering early skills and positive attitudes towards learning.
Key Responsibilities
The EYFS Teaching Assistant will be expected to undertake a wide range of duties to support the effective delivery of the Early Years curriculum, including:
Supporting the class teacher in planning and delivering lessons and learning activities aligned with the EYFS framework
Working with individual children and small groups to support learning and development
Supporting children’s communication and language skills, including early literacy, speaking, and listening
Encouraging personal, social, and emotional development, including confidence, independence, cooperation, and resilience
Facilitating learning through structured activities, child-led play, and exploration both indoors and outdoors
Supporting physical development, including fine and gross motor skills
Observing, recording, and reporting on children’s progress and achievements to the class teacher
Helping maintain a safe, organised, and stimulating learning environment
Supporting children during daily routines, including arrivals, transitions, snack times, and toileting
Assisting children with additional needs under the guidance of the class teacher or SENCo
Collaborating with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to ensure children’s learning and wellbeing
Maintaining professional conduct and contributing positively to the ethos of the school
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an EYFS Teaching Assistant who is caring, patient, and passionate about early years education. You should have a genuine interest in helping children develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
Experience working with children in an EYFS or similar early years setting
A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach
A calm, positive, and nurturing attitude
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
A relevant early years or childcare qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable, although candidates with significant experience and a willingness to engage in professional development are encouraged to apply.
