Senior Front-End Developer
Job Title: Senior Front-End Developer
Department: Digital
Location: UK (Hybrid)
Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Front-End Developer to join a Digital team, playing a key role in the ongoing development and evolution of multiple digital platforms.
You will take ownership of in-house front-end implementation across a primary ecommerce website, a secondary content-led site, and supporting digital touchpoints such as email and experimentation platforms. Working closely with Product, Design, external delivery partners, and senior technology stakeholders, you will help shape high-quality, performant, and accessible user experiences that support both brand and commercial objectives.
While the primary focus is web-based, future initiatives may include native or hybrid app experiences. Experience working across multiple platforms, or contributing to app-adjacent front-end architecture, would be advantageous.
This role is well suited to an experienced front-end engineer who enjoys setting standards, making architectural decisions, and collaborating closely across disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
Lead front-end development across multiple web platforms, ensuring high standards of quality, performance, accessibility, and maintainability
Translate design systems, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs into robust, scalable, and accessible front-end solutions
Own and influence front-end architectural decisions, balancing long-term maintainability with delivery requirements
Partner with Product and Design teams early in discovery and planning to shape technical approaches
Design, build, and deploy complex A/B and multivariate experiments using experimentation platforms, collaborating with analytics and optimisation teams
Support HTML email development, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and responsiveness across devices and clients
Champion front-end best practices, including performance optimisation, accessibility standards, and cross-browser compatibility
Conduct thorough QA and code reviews to identify issues early and ensure high-quality releases
Act as a senior technical voice within the team, sharing knowledge, mentoring where appropriate, and raising overall engineering standards
Candidate Requirements
Essential
Significant experience as a Front-End Developer, including time in senior or lead-level roles within ecommerce, digital retail, or complex content-driven environments
Proven experience leading or influencing front-end architecture and technical decisions across large-scale websites or platforms
Strong expertise in HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript, with deep knowledge of responsive design, performance optimisation, and accessibility best practices
Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating A/B or multivariate experiments using modern experimentation tools
Confidence collaborating cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, Analysts, and Engineering peers
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance technical quality with delivery timelines
Desirable
Experience working with enterprise ecommerce platforms and/or content management systems
Familiarity with templating frameworks and front-end tooling such as Handlebars.js, PHP, or CSS frameworks
Exposure to app-related front-end development or shared web/app architectural patterns
Experience working in brand-led, design-focused, or premium ecommerce environments
Practicalities
Full-time role with a standard working week
Hybrid working model, combining home-based and office-based work
Opportunity to join a collaborative digital team operating at the intersection of established brand values and modern technology
