Support Pupils With Additional Needs in a Meaningful Role

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Streatham, starting as soon as possible. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional support, helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop key social and communication skills.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils across the school, providing one-to-one and small group support. You will play a vital role in supporting children with a range of needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. The school values inclusion, understanding, and tailored support, and is looking for someone who is passionate about making a real difference in children’s lives.

You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to implement individual education plans and support strategies that enable pupils to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Your Role

In this role, you will support pupils throughout the school day, adapting tasks and activities to meet individual needs. You will help create a calm, structured environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and able to engage in learning.

This position is ideal for someone with experience in SEN support or a strong interest in developing a career in special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN

  • Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and classroom activities

  • Implement strategies outlined in individual education plans (IEPs)

  • Encourage positive behaviour, communication, and social interaction

  • Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to monitor progress

  • Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times

  • Maintain accurate records of progress and support provided

  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

Who We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will be:

  • Experienced working with children with SEN, or highly motivated to develop in this area

  • Patient, empathetic, and nurturing

  • Confident supporting pupils with a range of additional needs

  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Organised, reliable, and proactive

  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support are desirable but not essential.

What the School Offers

  • A supportive and experienced SEN team

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • A collaborative and inclusive school culture

  • Opportunities to gain specialist SEN experience

  • Supportive leadership that values staff contributions

  • A rewarding role making a tangible difference

Location

The school is located in Streatham, with strong transport links and a diverse local community. Staff work in a welcoming and professional environment focused on inclusion and pupil wellbeing.

How to Apply

To apply, please forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, outlining your experience and suitability for the role.

Start Date: ASAP

This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
