Support Pupils With Additional Needs in a Meaningful Role
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Streatham, starting as soon as possible. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional support, helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop key social and communication skills.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils across the school, providing one-to-one and small group support. You will play a vital role in supporting children with a range of needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. The school values inclusion, understanding, and tailored support, and is looking for someone who is passionate about making a real difference in children’s lives.
You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to implement individual education plans and support strategies that enable pupils to thrive both academically and emotionally.
Your Role
In this role, you will support pupils throughout the school day, adapting tasks and activities to meet individual needs. You will help create a calm, structured environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and able to engage in learning.
This position is ideal for someone with experience in SEN support or a strong interest in developing a career in special educational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN
Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and classroom activities
Implement strategies outlined in individual education plans (IEPs)
Encourage positive behaviour, communication, and social interaction
Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to monitor progress
Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times
Maintain accurate records of progress and support provided
Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Who We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will be:
Experienced working with children with SEN, or highly motivated to develop in this area
Patient, empathetic, and nurturing
Confident supporting pupils with a range of additional needs
Able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Organised, reliable, and proactive
Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support are desirable but not essential.
