Associate Mechanical Engineer

Jane Street
London
About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a highly technical group responsible for the design and construction of our physical office spaces. This position sits within our Engineering group, a team of creative problem-solvers who design to optimise the work experience at Jane Street. Our team operates with little red tape and our project goals often require new ideas and unique solutions-that's where you come in.

Our goal is to successfully manage, design and deliver highly reliable trading floors, amenity spaces and food service areas for our business. Every project must consider the features and systems that are essential for Jane Street to function, such as connectivity and resilience. We consider our nimble approach to problem-solving to be one of our greatest strengths-while other companies have stacks of procedures outlining how things have always been done, we look for the best solution to the challenge in front of us.

The merits of a solution always take priority. If you can think of a way to solve a problem or do something better, from procuring a specific kind of material to adding creative incentives into vendor contracts, we want to hear it.

We have a special sense of pride over these projects because we get to work in the spaces we build. Every day is an exercise in creating environments to help our colleagues do their best work. We execute at a high level, and you will have room to grow your skills, try new things and really make this job your own. Your ideas and solutions will make the team stronger.
About You
  • Have 5+ years of experience designing and constructing mission-critical data centres, trading floors or similar 24/7 facilities with projects ranging from £500K to £50 million
  • Knowledgeable about mechanical, electrical, fire protection, plumbing and networking systems
  • Able to perform QA/QC on consultants' drawings and onsite construction progress
  • Comfortable reviewing trade coordinations and resolving conflicts and communicating with various disciplines
  • A problem solver who can think creatively to keep projects moving forward smoothly, while staying on budget and deadline with a sense of urgency
  • Comfortable working with technical people in an IT-centric environment and learning new software and control systems
  • Able to prioritise tasks effectively and stay organised; can balance assigned work required for our constantly evolving environments
  • Creative, collaborative and enthusiastic team player who is eager to learn and take initiative
  • Enjoys asking "why" and can reason through new ways of doing things
  • Highly proficient in software, with a demonstrated willingness to leverage technology
  • Have good judgement and strong critical-thinking skills
  • Experience with PlanGrid, Autodesk Build, BIM Collaborate, Bluebeam, MS Project, AutoCAD, REVIT/BIM and MS Office is preferred
  • Fluency in English is required
