Nursery Teacher - Eltham
We are seeking a warm, committed, and enthusiastic Nursery Teacher to join a welcoming and well-established primary school in Eltham, starting as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children at the very beginning of their educational journey, supporting their development in a nurturing, engaging, and well-structured early years environment.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Nursery class, delivering high-quality provision in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The school places a strong emphasis on child-centred learning, inclusion, and positive relationships, and is seeking a teacher who understands the importance of early development and learning through play.
You will be joining a supportive Early Years team that values collaboration, shared planning, and reflective practice. Senior leadership is approachable and committed to staff development, ensuring teachers feel supported and confident in their role.
The Role
As a Nursery Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences that support children’s development across all areas of the EYFS. You will create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children feel confident to explore, communicate, and learn. Observation and assessment will play a key role in your practice, enabling you to track progress and plan meaningful next steps.
You will work closely with nursery practitioners and teaching assistants to ensure consistency and high-quality provision. Building positive relationships with parents and carers will also be essential, supporting children’s learning both in school and at home.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality Nursery provision in line with the EYFS
Create a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
Observe, assess, and record children’s progress accurately
Use assessment to inform planning and next steps
Support children’s personal, social, and emotional development
Promote positive behaviour, independence, and communication skills
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and Early Years colleagues
Communicate effectively with parents and carers
Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience teaching in Nursery or Early Years
Have a strong understanding of the EYFS framework
Be nurturing, patient, and enthusiastic
Demonstrate excellent classroom organisation and behaviour management
Be reflective, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement
Show a clear commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
