The purpose of this role is to assist the Recycling Officer in the administration, organisation, promotion, consultation, installation, operation and monitoring of kerbside, estate and bring site recycling schemes within Hackney.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience of organising a high volume, varied workload without day to day supervision.
• Experience of liaison with a wide range of people.
• Experience of working in a Recycling or Waste Management Environment

CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS:
• Ability to attend evening meetings.
• To assist local Community Groups and other Organisations and attend their meetings whether they be held during normal working hours or in the evenings and/or weekends.

DESIRABLE:
• Hold a current full driving licence.

Job Role:
• To provide support to the Recycling Officer to increase recycling and waste minimisation activities within the Borough.
• To liaise with different groups associated with multi-occupancy dwellings and bring sites (including the commuter and park recycling bins) within the Borough and actively promote the expansion of the number of communal recycling facilities and promote their use.
• To assist the Recycling Officer to manage kerbside recycling schemes (eg. dry recyclables’ collection), estates based recycling schemes and reuse projects, as needed, as well as support to manage public recycling-on-the-go and public bring sites.

• To assist the Recycling Officer to manage the waste awareness and education service as and when required.
• To provide word processing and database support to the Recycling Office, typing letters, reports, memos, and producing spreadsheets and other information related to recycling activities.
• To process customer queries and complaints within Recycling Operations in accordance with Council procedures.

• To maintain operational information and schedule and performance monitoring data. To correlate and analyse data received and provide various statistics related to the work of the Recycling Operations (eg. recycling tonnages, performance indicators, etc), using Excel packages.
• To take notes at various meetings and circulate minutes as requested.
• To monitor existing multi-occupancy/communal/kerbside recycling schemes/reuse schemes and deal with any day-day problems to ensure satisfactory operation; give consideration to the expansion or modification of these schemes to maximise participation and make the best use of resources. To advise residents of siting of recycling containers.

• To research and produce draft reports and letters related to waste minimisation and recycling as and when required.
• To attend and participate in meetings and functions (which may occur in the evenings or weekends) and to present talks where necessary.
• To advise and, where appropriate, assist local community groups and voluntary organisations in setting up recycling schemes.

• To undertake ordering of equipment and materials in accordance with Council procedure, Standing Orders and Financial Regulations.
• To undertake all duties and inter-actions with employees, partner providers and customers fairly, and without unlawful discrimination and with due regard to the Council’s Diversity and Equality in Employment and Service Delivery Policies.

• To implement policies and procedures necessary to meet customer care needs and which reflect the Council’s vision and core values.
• To ensure a positive image to customers and other individuals and organisations and promote the service by whatever means are appropriate and available.
• To ensure all complaints are responded to in accordance with Council procedure.

• To assist the Recycling Officer and Manager with the completion of funding applications for recycling projects, and ensure compliance with terms and conditions laid down by the funding body and meet agreed timescales and milestones.
• To assist in the implementation of action plans that translates the Council’s overall strategic objectives into operational initiatives to ensure that the Council meets its statutory requirements and local targets with regard to Recycling and Waste Minimisation.
