SEN 1:1 Support - Upminster
We are seeking a patient, dedicated, and compassionate SEN 1:1 Support Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Upminster, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs on a one-to-one basis and helping them feel confident, safe, and supported within the school environment.
The school has a strong inclusive ethos and works closely with families and external professionals to ensure pupils with special educational needs receive tailored and consistent support. Staff work collaboratively to create a nurturing, structured, and positive learning environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. Senior leadership is approachable and committed to staff development, wellbeing, and ongoing training.
As an SEN 1:1 Support Assistant, you will work closely with a named pupil who requires additional support to access learning and manage their day-to-day school experience. You will support the pupil academically, socially, and emotionally, adapting strategies to meet their individual needs and helping them develop independence and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with SEN
Support the pupil in accessing the curriculum during lessons
Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
Support social interaction, communication, and independence
Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and support staff
Monitor, observe, and record progress against agreed targets
Support the pupil during transitions, break times, and structured activities
Maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals
Attend training, reviews, and CPD sessions as required
Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times
