SEN 1:1 Support - Upminster

We are seeking a patient, dedicated, and compassionate SEN 1:1 Support Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Upminster, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs on a one-to-one basis and helping them feel confident, safe, and supported within the school environment.

The school has a strong inclusive ethos and works closely with families and external professionals to ensure pupils with special educational needs receive tailored and consistent support. Staff work collaboratively to create a nurturing, structured, and positive learning environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. Senior leadership is approachable and committed to staff development, wellbeing, and ongoing training.

As an SEN 1:1 Support Assistant, you will work closely with a named pupil who requires additional support to access learning and manage their day-to-day school experience. You will support the pupil academically, socially, and emotionally, adapting strategies to meet their individual needs and helping them develop independence and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with SEN

  • Support the pupil in accessing the curriculum during lessons

  • Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning plans

  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Support social interaction, communication, and independence

  • Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and support staff

  • Monitor, observe, and record progress against agreed targets

  • Support the pupil during transitions, break times, and structured activities

  • Maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment

  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals

  • Attend training, reviews, and CPD sessions as required

  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times

  • Show a clear commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing
