About the Role:
Southwark Youth Justice Service (YJS) is seeking a Job Share Youth Justice Service Reparation Officer to co‑lead one of our community reparation projects. This position requires the post holder to work 11.95 hours a month , primarily on Saturdays , with some weekday evening training.
You will lead a small group made up of two to three young offenders, supported by volunteer mentors, delivering practical and restorative work for charities, schools, faith groups and not‑for‑profit organisations across the borough.
Current projects include our “handy” service at Surrey Docks City Farm, which provides carpentry-based practical improvements for the farm.
You will be responsible for:
- Planning/delivering safe, structured and meaningful reparation activities, particularly relating to woodwork.
- Supervising and motivating young people and volunteers
- Liaising with beneficiaries and YJS staff
- Ensuring work carried out is restorative, constructive and aligned with preventing further offending
About You:
We are looking for someone who is practically skilled and an experienced group facilitator, able to lead with confidence, creativity and empathy.
You should bring:
- Skills in carpentry, or experience in painting, gardening, IT
- Experience delivering group work in a community/youth setting
- The ability to motivate and engage young people, including those with complex needs
- Strong communication skills for working with volunteers and community beneficiaries
- The capacity to plan, organise and deliver focused, imaginative and restorative work
- A commitment to maintaining a safe/supportive working environment.
Applicants must be prepared to commit to at least 5 hours alternate Saturdays, liaising closely with their job share carpenter .
This post requires a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at Enhanced – Children’s (Barred) list level.
About the Team:
The Reparation Team consists of YJS staff, trained volunteers and specialist sessional workers – painter, bike mechanic, carpenter, chef etc. The service provides opportunities for young people who have harmed others to give back to the community and help repair harm. Young people benefit from both helping others and learning new skills.
