SEN Teaching Assistant - Tower Hamlets
We are seeking a caring, patient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Tower Hamlets, starting as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with special educational needs and make a real difference to their learning, confidence, and wellbeing.
The school has a strong commitment to inclusion and provides a nurturing environment where every child is supported to achieve their full potential. Staff work collaboratively, and the SEN team is well-structured, with clear guidance and support from the SENCO and senior leadership team.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of needs, which may include autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored support to pupils with special educational needs
Work 1:1 or in small groups to support learning and development
Assist pupils with academic tasks, emotional regulation, and social interaction
Support the class teacher with lesson delivery and differentiation
Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning
Support pupils during transitions, playtimes, and school activities
Maintain accurate observations and feedback for teachers and SEN staff
Follow safeguarding, behaviour, and school policies at all times
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
Have experience supporting children with SEN (school-based or personal experience)
Be patient, empathetic, and resilient
Have a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
Be able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
Have good communication and teamwork skills
Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable
Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or communication needs is highly desirable, but training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
The school is located in Tower Hamlets, with excellent public transport links and a diverse, welcoming community. Staff benefit from a supportive working environment, clear expectations, and opportunities for development within SEN support roles.
How to Apply
To apply, please submit an up-to-date CV outlining your experience and interest in the role.
Start Date: ASAP
This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
