🔑 About The Job
We're looking for an Engineering Manager who is passionate about building high-performing, empowered teams. You'll lead a group of talented engineers, guide them through technical challenges, and work closely with Product and Design to deliver customer-focused solutions at scale for a global business.
You’ll also take the lead in managing outsourced software development partners, ensuring they are aligned with our standards, timelines, and technical vision. In addition, you’ll drive Engineering resource planning, budget management, and the definition and delivery of SLAs for internally developed systems and services.
This role requires a unique blend of technical acumen, people leadership, and strategic thinking. You’ll play a key role in shaping our Engineering culture, scaling our systems, and developing the people around you.
🔧 What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead, mentor, and support a multidisciplinary engineering team of Full-Stack, SRE and QA Engineers with a focus on performance, development, and collaboration
- Drive the delivery of high-impact features from planning through to production
- Deliver scalable solutions for a global customer base
- Own relationships with outsourced development teams, ensuring alignment, effective collaboration and consistent output
- Plan and manage team capacity, headcount, and budget to support business goals
- Define, track, and meet SLAs for internally developed systems and services
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented environment
- Partner with Product, Design, and other relevant stakeholders to shape the roadmap
- Develop our Engineering processes and practices as we scale, including setting code quality standards and ensuring adherence to engineering excellence
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and ongoing career development of engineers
- Balance strategic technical guidance with people leadership - you won’t be hands-on every day, but you’ll stay close to the technology
🤩 About You
- Organisational & People Leadership
- Proven experience leading high-performing engineering teams, ideally across multiple disciplines in a fast-paced environment
- A track record of managing and partnering with outsourced or offshore software development teams
- Experience with engineering resource planning, budgeting, and aligning team structure with business needs
- Skilled at giving feedback, coaching, and unblocking teams
- Able to lead through ambiguity and bring structure when needed
- Effective communicator - both upward and across functions - with the ability to simplify complex ideas and build trust
- Engage engineers to support a culture of collaboration and inclusion through mentorship, respectful code review, and dedication to quality.
- You are passionate about voicing your opinions and can be humble in receiving feedback
- Bonus: Experience in a scale-up environment, or having led teams through growth phases
Technical Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ in a Team Lead or Managerial role
- A strong technical foundation - you can understand architecture decisions and unblock teams without being hands-on daily
- Experience delivering scalable, reliable systems for global user bases
- Comfortable operating in environments subject to regulatory, compliance, and risk-based security requirements
- Experience designing and building products or major features from concept to launch
🙌What’s In It For You
- Generous stock options scheme
- 30 days annual leave PLUS Bank Holidays
- Annual office closure between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
- Private medical and dental insurance
- 9% employer pension contributions, when you contribute at least 2%
- £1,200 learning and development budget each year to use on training courses, conferences and professional memberships
- Personal equipment budget to work from home
- Enhanced family leave policies
- Life assurance of 4x your salary
🔍Our hiring process
Our hiring process may vary between roles, particularly for technical roles where we may incorporate a technical skills/based interview, but as standard you’ll have:
- Screening call with one of our in-house Talent Leads
- First stage interview with the Hiring Manager
- On-site second stage interview with key stakeholders - this could be other managers, peers or Senior team members.
- Final stage interview with one of our Execs.
On average, our hiring process takes around 2-3 weeks after your initial screening call.
We hire on a rolling basis, so we’ll close the role when we either a) have enough applications to process or b) have hired someone exceptional to fill the position. You’ll hear from us throughout the process, but if you’ve got any questions, please reach out to us at [email protected].
