Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

The SEN Teaching Assistant will adapt resources, reinforce teacher-led learning and use agreed strategies to help pupils participate successfully.

• Provide focused 1:1 and small-group support
• Promote independence rather than completing tasks for pupils
• Help pupils manage transitions and classroom routines
• Use calm, consistent approaches to behaviour
• Work alongside teachers, the SENCO and specialist professionals

Requirements for an SEN Teaching Assistant:

An effective SEN Teaching Assistant will show empathy, resilience and strong communication. Experience with SEND is welcomed, but candidates with relevant youth work, care, mentoring or child-development experience may also have valuable transferable skills.
