Museum Records Historic Archive Volunteer
We are looking to involve Museum Records Historic Archive volunteers within the Museums Records team. The Museum Records team provides expert advice and guidance to the Museum on the management of its current and semi-current administrative records in-line with information management legislation and best practice guidelines. It also manages the Museum historical archive which cares for the long-term and historical administrative records of the Museum from 1934.
The Museum Records team is an administrative function within the Museum's Directorate Department hence this will not be a public facing role. Volunteers will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and develop their interest of working in an Archive environment within the Public Sector and 20th century records. This is a volunteer role which may interest someone considering applying for a postgraduate course in Archives and Records Management or a related discipline. What the role involves: - Listing of paper records related with the administration of the Museum and acquisition of objects in our permanent collection- Reboxing of records and improvement of their storage conditions
- Reviewing existing lists and improve existing information about the records
- Other ad-hoc tasks within the team as needed What we’re looking for in you: - Good standard of spoken and written English
- Good interpersonal and communications skills
- Ability to work methodically with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
- Good IT skills (i.e. experience of using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel)
- Willingness to volunteer at a secure off-site storage facility
- An interest in archives
- Experience of working in archives and records management
- Interest in museums and their management

- Reasonable expenses for travel and refreshments can be reimbursed up to a limit of £15 per day (conditions apply). Please note we are unable to provide parking facilities. Time Commitment: 1 day a week on site, either Tuesdays or Thursdays, 10am - 4pm.
Applicants interested in applying should note that they will be required to volunteer at our off-site facility in Kidbrooke.
The role is expected to continue for a minimum of 3 months and volunteers should be able to commit to this length of time initially, with the possibility of extension. Please note, we can only take on volunteers who are 18+.
