Credit Risk Underwriter - Bridging & Buy-to-let

Meaningful 2nd Line credit authority | £1m–£35m specialist lending exposure | Hybrid working | Influence credit policy and portfolio risk

If you’re an experienced Underwriter – Specialist Mortgages & Bridging Finance looking to move beyond transactional underwriting, this role gives you genuine credit authority within a 2nd Line Credit Risk function. You’ll assess and sanction specialist property lending proposals typically ranging from £1m to £35m.

Alongside individual credit decisions, you’ll gain broader exposure to portfolio reviews, credit policy and lending assurance, working closely with senior Credit Risk stakeholders and Credit Committee.

Package & Benefits
• Salary of £65,000–£70,000 per annum.
• Hybrid working, with a minimum 50% of each month based in the head office.
• Monday to Friday working hours, typically 9am–5.30pm.

Key Responsibilities
• Sanction specialist mortgage and bridging finance proposals within your delegated lending authority, ensuring decisions align with the Credit Risk Management Framework.
• Assess complex lending proposals and present clear credit recommendations to senior management and Credit Committee where required.
• Support portfolio reviews, credit risk monitoring and deep-dive investigations across specialist mortgages and bridging finance.
• Contribute to credit policy development, lending assurance and improvements to credit risk and sanctioning processes.

About You
• At least two years’ recent experience in credit risk underwriting and sanctioning.
• Experience across specialist mortgages, including Buy to Let, HMO and real estate bridging finance.
• Strong working knowledge of credit risk assessment, risk grading and relevant property lending markets.
